SEATTLE A King County Judge is expected to make a bench ruling Friday on a lawsuit looking to derail the Seattle Arena project.
Judge could rule on Seattle arena lawsuit Friday
Ava Chen, the bailiff for Judge Douglass North, said she believed he was ready to rule on the litigation.
Attorneys for the Local Chapter of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have filed a suit which alleges City and County leaders violated State Environmental Laws by designating the SoDo site in the Memorandum of Understanding on the project. ILWU Attorney Peter Goldman says it has made the process a sham .
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes, and an attorney for Arena investor Chris Hansen have claimed the suit has no merit and have asked for it to be dismissed.
An ILWU victory could delay the Environmental Impact Study and, perhaps, Hansen s purchase of the Sacramento Kings. That deal still needs NBA approval. The MOU calls for, in part, construction of a $490 million dollar sports arena only after an environmental review, economic review and purchase of a franchise.
Goldman and Holmes offices both said they are expecting a decision Friday.
Hansen s investment group signed a purchase agreement for the Sacramento Kings franchise last month.
The hearing starts at 1:30 p.m.
