This Saturday, Seattle Sounders FC hosts Tottenham Hotspur FC from the English Premier League in an international friendly (exhibition-type match for those not familiar with soccer terms). Tottenham is a suburb in north London, which the team has called home since 1882. The team has a strong following in Seattle and even has an official supporters club here in the Emerald City (Seattle Spurs), so it seems fitting that the Hotspur would include Seattle in their latest mini-US tour. However, this isn't the only link between Seattle and Tottenham.

Three players have worn uniforms for both teams:

  • Ray Evans (defender) played for Spurs from 1965-1974 and Sounders from 1982-1983.
  • Kasey Keller (goalkeeper) played for Spurs from 2001-2005 and Sounders FC from 2009-2011, retiring as one of the best goalkeepers to ever play the game.Kasey is currently the Sounders FC's Broadcast Analyst.
  • Clint Dempsey (forward) played for Spurs from 2012-2013 before joining the Sounders FC, where he's currently a designated player and, along with teammates DeAndre Yedlin and Obafemi Martins, was just named to the 2014 AT&T MLS All Star Team. (Dempsey is also captain of the US Men's National Soccer Team, which made it through to the Round of 16 at this year's World Cup before being eliminated by Belgium 2-1 in extra time)

Kasey Keller joined host Margaret Larson, along with former Spurs teammate Ledley King, regarded as one of Tottenham's best defenders, as well as one of the EPL's best defenders of his generation. Ledley came up through Tottenham's youth system and played for the Hotspur from 1999-2012, when chronic knee injuries forced the dynamic player to retire. He remains such a fan favorite, he currently serves at Team Ambassador and represents Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

Two two former teammates previewed Saturday's match and shared some of their memories of playing together. Kasey also talked about his recent experience as analyst for ESPN's World Cup coverage in Brazil (he helped call a number of games and took part in panel discussions breaking down match-ups, reviewing some of the tournament's memorable, and sometimes controversial, plays).
