A skier has died and two have survived an avalanche near Revelstoke, British Columbia, reports CBC News.

The avalanche happened Friday while the victim was skiing with four friends in an out-of-bounds area at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Royal Canadian Mountain Police told CBC News that three people in the group were buried int he slide.

Two of the people were rescued by emergency personnel, but by the time they located the third skier, he had died.
