Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn is pushing for 20 new police officers on city streets. He says higher projected revenues will make it possible.

The mayor had budgeted for 10 new officers in the 2013/2014 budget. Now, with projected revenues $1.9 million higher, there is enough money to put 20 more officers.

The authorized size of the force will be 10 more in 2013, 10 more in 2014, and our goal is to put those officers on the street, said McGinn.

The Seattle City Council was about to beat him to it and vote for more officers.

I think it s great the mayor agrees with us, that he came around and sees the need for more officers, said Seattle City Councilmember Tim Burgess.
