Journalist Tracie McMillan argues that everyone wants good food, but not everyone can afford it.

In her new book The American Way of Eating, McMillan looks at the issues of food and class through her experiences working undercover in the food industry, from the fields of California to a New York Applebee's kitchen.

In her book, McMillan argues that the idea only the affluent and educated care about their meals is only partially true. She points to the cost and effort of eating healthier foods as a main deterrent for those who make less, which is often the populations responsible for picking, selling, and cooking what we eat.

McMillan stopped by KING 5's studios to share more about why food is so important, and how wages and work affect what people eat.
