TACOMA, Wash. - The past few years have not been easy for Life Christian Academy basketball player Andriana Vandergriend.
In seven seasons, Andriana has had seven different coaches. This year, her new coach asked the 5-foot 8-inch tall captain to move from the post for the first time to point guard.
This past summer, her family suffered a painful loss when Andriana's older brother Zach, a firefighter, died in the line of duty.
Andriana has turned the tragedy into motivation. She wants to study psychology. Eventually, she plans on becoming a counselor so she can help others who have also experienced emotional pain and tragedy.
There's no doubt she'll push hard in the classroom to achieve her goal. She has a 3.9 GPA.
Andriana also wants to get involved in short term missions to Third World countries, especially in Africa.
In addition to basketball, Andriana competes in track and cross country.
