Boise State and Fresno State will win their respective division titles in the Mountain West this year.
That's according to a media poll released Tuesday at Mountain West Media Days.
The Broncos, picked to win the Mountain Division, finished 8-5 overall and 6-2 in the league in 2013 one game behind Utah State, which finished behind Boise State with 12 first-place votes and 176 total points. Boise State, which brings back 15 starters, got 20 first-place votes and 183 points.
Defending conference champion Fresno State, which returns 16 starters, led the West Division with 15 first-place votes and 174 total points. The Broncos finished 11-3 in 2013 and contended for a BCS Bowl bid. Fresno State barely beat out San Diego State (15 first-place votes, 172 total points).
The All-Mountain West team was also announced Tuesday, with 15 returning all-league players on the 25-member squad.
Utah State senior quarterback Chuckie Keeton (1,388 yards, 18 TDs in 2013) was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and Fresno State senior safety Derron Smith (second in the nation with seven interceptions) was selected as the defensive player of the year. New Mexico junior return specialist Carlos Wiggins garnered Preseason MW Special Teams Player of the Year honors.
Making up the rest of the first-team offense included: Boise State WR Matt Miller, UNLV WR Devante Davis, Boise State RB Jay Ajayi, San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey, Colorado State OL Ty Sambrailo, Fresno State OL Cody Wichmann, New Mexico OL LaMar Bratton, UNLV OL Brett Boyko, UNLV OL Robert Waterman, Colorado State TE Kivon Cartwright.
Making up the rest of the first-team defense included: Fresno State DL Tyeler Davison, Nevada DL Brock Hekking, Utah State DL B.J. Larsen, Wyoming DL Eddie Yarbrough, Fresno State LB Ejiro Ederaine, Utah State LB Kyler Fackrell, Utah State LB Zach Vigil, Boise State DB Donte Deayon, Boise State DB Jeremy Ioane, Fresno State Derron Smith, San Diego State DB J.J. Whittaker.
