Statement by Senator Patty Murray:
The tough vote taken by the Machinists today means the 777X will be built in the only place it should be, by the only people prepared to deliver. As so many Washington families know, this agreement is more than a business deal; it's a guarantee that thousands of good-paying jobs and billions of dollars in economic growth will continue to strengthen our aerospace industry and our economy for years to come.
I know well this decision wasn't easy for any of the Machinists or their families, and I know that many of those men and women decided Boeing's latest offer was still unacceptable. Their concerns about income and retirement security for current and future generations of aerospace workers - and all American workers - are legitimate. The urgency of investing in our people and expanding the middle class needs to continue to be our country's top economic and fiscal priority.

I am encouraged that the Machinists today approved the contract extension that will keep the 777X in Washington state. This was a significant and farsighted vote, and I am deeply appreciative of the serious consideration and thought that Machinists and their families took in coming to this conclusion. Today's positive vote guarantees job security not just for today's workers, but for future generations.
With their vote today, Boeing workers preserved Washington's place at the forefront of the aerospace industry. We are honored to be the home of the best airplane builders in the world, and we look forward to this exciting new chapter for Boeing and Everett.
Statement from Office of State Senator Michael Baumgartner:
SPOKANE - Tonight at the Seattle headquarters of District 751 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, members voted to accept Boeing's latest contract offer, ensuring that the 777X wing will be produced in Washington along with the final airplane assembly.
I'm pleased that members of the machinists union have come together in agreement with Boeing on a contract that will guarantee that Washington continues to be the nation's leading hub for aerospace, said state Sen. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane.
This is an important step in ensuring thousands of jobs remain in Washington. The aerospace industry has subcontractors and other support industries literally all over the state. Spokane County alone has nearly 4,000 jobs that are related to the aerospace industry. I'm optimistic that today's vote will help keep those jobs here and provide the opportunity to expand that number in the years to come.
A no vote by the machinists would have also likely impacted the economy and the revenue brought in by state government. According to a Nov. 21, 2013, report by Moody's Investors Service, the loss of the production of the Boeing 777X would have meant the regional economy would lose a potential engine of growth and the local and state government would forgo potential tax revenues.
Baumgartner warned that, even with today's vote, the state must do more to keep and attract new industries and employers. Failure to do so, he said, will likely result in Boeing, as well as other employers, eventually taking their jobs to other states.
Most other locations are doing everything they can to attract new employers and the jobs they bring with them, said Baumgartner. Meanwhile, Washington has failed to act on common-sense workers' compensation reform, allowed Boeing's top request last year - that we use good science to craft our environmental regulations - go unanswered and continued to increase the cost of doing business.
In today's mobile economy, companies can and will move. We should do everything in our power to prove to the world that Washington is place where it's easy for new businesses to be created and existing business to grow and thrive.
Baumgartner, a member of the Senate's Trade and Economic Development committee, continued, When it comes to improving our business climate, there is still work to do.
