Multiple reports say the Washington State Cougars have hired a defensive coordinator. It's believed that Montana d-coordinator Mike Breske will fill the same role in Pullman.

Footballscoop.com and CougFan.com are the websites reporting the hiring. Breske has coached for over 30 years, mostly as a defensive coordinator. He's won three titles in that capacity. Breske won two with Northern Colorado (1996 &1997)and onewith Montana (2001). According to the Missoulian, head coach Mike Leach talked to Breske last week about the job. Also last week, Cougars cornerback Nolan Washington talked withIan Furness on KJRsports radio. He said Leach told the players all the coaches would be in place by this weekend. So it makes sense on the timing of the Breske hiring. I'm sure an official announcement will come later this week.

Breske appears to be a very aggressive coach on defense.Last season, the Grizzlies only gave up 327 yards per game, 19.93 PPG, and accumulated 36 sacks. They did this at the FCSlevel. The Cougars, for some perspective, gave up 409 YPG, 31.75 PPG, and accumulated only 17 sacks. That was on the FBSlevel. So it remains to be seen if Breske can make it happen in the PAC-12. If he comes close to it, that bodes well for the Cougars. With Mike Leach's offense, anything under 30points allowed on defense should do well next season.
