SEATTLE - A 196-feet-high observation wheel has gotten the OK from Seattle's Department of Planning and Development.

The observation wheel will be similar to a Ferris wheel but with enclosed gondolas able to hold six to eight people.

Seattle Center is bringing in the wheel for 18 months to usher in its 50th anniversary next year.

The department says the wheel would be regulated as equipment rather than a structure so it's not subject to the 85-foot structure height limit.
