For more than a decade, service men and women have been returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with injuries so severe, they require lengthy hospital stays and sometimes, prosthetic limbs. Each one has spent at least part of their recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, in a wing originally known as Ward 57. A non-profit organization named Operation Ward 57 works to help each patient and his/her family during the hospitalization and recovery process.
Every summer, Operation Ward 57 holds its annual fundraiser, a motorcycle rally, silent auction and music festival called Rock & Rally For the Troops. Executive Director Brittney Hamilton joined host Margaret Larson to talk more about the event, as well as the military families being helped by Operation Ward 57. Also joining the segment was singer Joe Taylor from the band Lakeview Drive, gave the audience and viewers a musical preview.
