Western Washington has had its share of heartache over the past week. The latest tragedy struck over: a massive mudslide in Oso over the weekend that killed at least eight people, destroyed a number of homes and businesses, and blocked State Route 530 as well as part of the Stillaguamish River. At least 108 people have been reported missing by family and friends.
The mudslide somes on the heels of last week's helicopter crash that killed KOMO News pilot Gary Pfitzner and photographer Bill Strothman, as well as the ongoing search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-370, which vanished hours after takeoff, two weeks ago.
KING 5 Aviation Specialist Glenn Farley joined Margaret with udpates about all three investigations and shared how he works to separate emotions from the task of covering such tragid events. Grief therapist Scott Rutledge from The Healing Center in Seattle shared insight into why such large-scale tragedies trigger widespread grief, especially among those who are in no way connected to any of the events. He also shared how to process these tragedies in a healing way - as well as helping other family members cope, especially children.
