LACEY, Wash. -- Thurston County deputies have arrested a man they say stabbed and killed his mother and then stabbed a 67-year-old man in a wheelchair in two separate attacks Monday afternoon.
Deputies found the 67-year-old man with multiple stab wounds at his home in the 900 block of Marvin Road SE around 3:30 p.m.
Police say they were alerted to the stabbing after the victim's dog ran out into a heavily trafficked road. A woman found the dog and learned where it lived. When she went to return the dog, she discovered the victim lying on the floor bleeding next to his wheelchair and immediately called police. He was taken to a hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries.
As police were at the scene, they received a call that a woman had been stabbed to death at a home about four miles away. When police arrived, they found a brown Ford F-150 truck and a man inside that had been seen at the first stabbing scene.
Police put the pieces together and learned that the dead woman was the mother of the 30-year-old man in the truck.
The suspect was immediately taken into police custody.
Police later learned the 30-year-old suspect had recently lived next door to the 67-year-old man. Police also said the suspect used a motorized screwdriver to stab his mother and used a standard screwdriver to stab his former 67-year-old neighbor.
Investigators were determining the events that led up to the stabbings.
