SEATTLE -- Apolo Anton Ohno, America's most decorated Winter Olympian, says he will be at the Winter Games next February in Sochi, but not as a skater.
I will be there with NBC covering the games, he said. Doing some commentary for short track speed skating, some long track speed skating, some of the downhill events as well. So a different role, being on the other side of the lens, but one that will be equally rewarding.
Ohno was in town to unveil his plaque on the Nordstrom Walk of Fame, a collection of imprints and autographs of local celebrities such as Ken Griffey Jr., Quincy Jones and Bill Sr. and Mary Gates. Ohno's plaque is unique.Instead of footprints, there's a reproduction of the marks made by his skates making his signature left turn.
Ohno won eight medals in three winter Olympics in short track speed skating. He also tasted victory in the show Dancing with the Stars and recently hosted the game show, Minute to Win It.
The hardest part of the transition from athlete to television personality, says Ohno, is fitting in a good workout each day. Although he says he misses the life of an athlete, he's also enjoying working on television projects and hopes to produce some programs as well.
Flashing his mega watt smile, he laughs, I stay busy, to say the least.
