Bellingham's Angeli Vanlaanen has been hitting the slopes since she was a child.

Skiing for her this year will be different because she is making a bid to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The 27 year old could become one of the first women to compete at the Olympics in the sport of freeskiing, which is making its debut.

This will be Vanlaanen's second season back since taking three years off to battle Lyme Disease. She has spent a lot of time raising awareness about it. She produced and starred in a film titled LymeLight, which featured her treatment and return to good health, as well as shining a light on the struggle many face while battling this disease. Vanlaanen is now in remission.

With the games just 206 days away, training is starting to heat up. As one of six top contenders for the three spots on the U.S. Olympic team, Vanlaanen is looking ahead to an intense six months.
