Police on Wednesday searched a rural property near Salem, Ore. for the body of missing mother Susan Cox Powell, who disappeared from her home in Utah in December of 2009.
For two days, investigators used 5 teams to search the property, each with a cadaver dog, Susan's father Chuck Cox told KING 5.
It was a very promising place to look based on the tip that I got, Cox said.
Cox explained that the tip was about Josh Powell's aunt and uncle, who were renting the property when Susan disappeared in 2009.
That they would be willing to do whatever Steve [Josh's father] and Josh asked them to do, said Cox. And it was a concern this was way off the beaten path where people were looking for my daughter.
Susan Cox Powell disappeared from her West Valley City home on December of 2009. Her husband, Josh Powell, considered a person of interest in her disappearance, killed himself and the couple s two children in an explosion and house fire in Graham, Wash. in February 2012.
Josh Powell's father Steven Powell is set to be released this month from the Monroe Correctional Complex, where he is serving time for taking voyeuristic photographs of two young neighbor girls in various stages of undress.
Chuck Cox said nothing was found at the Oregon site, except for some old clothing and possible animal bones.
They searched the entire area and she just wasn't there, he said. The dogs didn't find anything.
I don't think it's going to reveal anything; it may yield some more tips or something but I'm pretty sure she's not out there, he said.
Cox said the family is disappointed.
The fact that the dogs didn't find here there is depressing and becomes... we're not sure she'll ever be found, but you know you just can't give up because she's your daughter.
