A frightening ride home for 38 Auburn grade schoolers after their school bus struck a power pole, causing live power lines to drape over the bus.

The kids had just left nearby Arthur Jacobsen Elementary School when the driver veered off 132nd Avenue Southeast, on Auburn's Lea Hill.

As a precaution, the students were kept inside the bus for 45 minutes until Puget Sound Energy crews de-energized the power lines.

None of the kids was hurt, but many were visibly upset and some were crying as fire officials helped them out of the damaged bus.

No word what caused the driver to hit the power pole.

Around 1,700 nearby residents remain without power.
