With many schools back in session this week, parents might start thinking about hiring a tutor for their children. Julie Ogata from ParentMap has a few tips for tutoring:

1. Make sure your child is on board with this idea. If they don't want a tutor, they won't put in the effort and you'll probably waste money.

2. Match the tutor's style to your child's. If your child has a problem with visual memory, make sure your tutor can teach using other learning styles such as kinesthetic or auditory.

3. Make sure your child and tutor have a connection. Let your child be part of the hiring process.

4. Check the tutor's credentials. You can find tutors on Craigslist, blogs, counselors, just make sure you check into their backgrounds.
