Here are some fun little tidbits to impress your friends with before Super Bowl XLVIII.

  1. The Vince Lombardi Trophy stands 20 3/4 inches tall, weighs 6.7 pounds and is valued more than $25,000. It is made of sterling silver by Tiffany & Company.
  2. Each player on the winning team in Super Bowl XLVIII will receive $92,000. Each losing player gets $46,000.
  3. The Denver Broncos lead the all-time series with the Seahawks 34-19, but the Seahawks won the lone playoff matchup between the two, 31-7 in 1983, when they both were in the AFC.
  4. No NFL team has ever played in a Super Bowl in the same year that it has been held in their home stadium.This year, that's the Giants and Jets, which share MetLife Stadium. The next three will be held in Arizona,San Francisco and Houston.
  5. A 30-second commercial for Super Bowl XLVIII will cost $4 million. In the first Super Bowl, it was $42,000.
  6. The base ticket price for Super Bowl XLVIII is between $500 and $2,600, but many people are likely to pay more on the open market. For the first Super Bowl, the prices were $6, $8 and $12.
  7. No Super Bowl has ever gone to overtime. The closest it ever got was in Super Bowl XXXIV when the Tennessee Titans were stopped one-yard short of scoring a game-tying touchdown against the St. Louis Rams as time expired.
  8. 3,652,409 people have attended Super Bowl games.
  9. The coldest outdoor Super Bowl was Super Bowl VI New Orleans, before the Superdome opened. It was 39 degrees. The current forecast indicates Super Bowl XLVIII will likely break that record.
  10. If the Seahawks win, odds are that Russell Wilson would be the MVP. Quarterbacks have won 26 of the 47 previous Super Bowl MVP trophies. Next are running backs (7), wide receivers (6), defensive players (6) and a kick returner (1).
  11. It s truly a worldwide event. Super Bowl XLVIII will be distributed to more than 185 countries and broadcast in 30 different languages.
  12. The 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be announced the day before the Super Bowl. Seattle Seahawks tackle Walter Jones is a finalist. Former Seahawks Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy and Warren Moon are also in the Hall.
