With increased construction and the addition of the world's largest tunneling machine digging through downtown Seattle, parking spaces have been limited.
Now the Washington State Department of Transportation is teaming up with the city and private businesses to offer 2,000 discounted parking spaces at area garages and lots.
WSDOT has also created a new web app at downtownseattleparking.com. The site is designed to help drivers find the nearest parking space and inform you about where the discounted lots are located.
Additionally, eight new signs have been posted under the viaduct, directing drivers to available lots.
This is something that can last a long time, said Becky Hixson, WSDOT spokeswoman.
Business owners along the Seattle waterfront have long complained that increased construction is hurting their business because fewer parking spaces are available.
