NORTH BEND, Wash. - A 19-year-old man from North Bend has been charged in ahit-and-run that killed Lucinda Pieczatkowskiearly New Year's morning.
Cody Eads allegedly admitted to investigators that he had been drinking beer at a New Year's Eve party, but stopped at midnight. Around 1:30 a.m. on New Year's Day, he drove his Ford F-150 pickup towards his home down Stone Quarry Road, according to court documents filed Wednesday.
At the same time, Lucinda Pieczatkowski was walking home along the west side of Stone Quarry Road. The defendant struck her with his pickup truck, but reportedly did not assist her or call 911. Instead he drove home, according to investigators.
Pieczatkowski's body was discovered a few hours later by the Snoqualmie Police Department and King County Sheriff's Office. She died from the injuries she received.
The next day, the Eads family attorney called the King County Sheriff's office and informed them that the truck involved in the crash was parked at the family's residence. The truck was impounded and had damage consistent with striking a pedestrian, according to investigators.
It took detectives several months to collect enough evidence to determine who was behind the wheel, according to Sgt. Cindi West with the King County Sheriff's Office.
I've got to tell you, we did not have a whole lot of cooperation on this case. There were a lot of people who supposedly knew who the driver was and what happened, but they were reluctant to come forward and tell us, said Sgt. West.
Eads is not yet in police custody and has not been booked into jail, according to Dan Donohoe with the King County Prosecutor's Office.
Eads is expected to be arraigned in King County Superior Court on August 21.
Erik Pieczatkowski, Lucy's son, said he is ready to see justice for his mom.
He (Eads) needs to understand the position he is in and the families that he has impacted and really learn from this, said Pieczatkowski.
When contacted by phone, Eads said he had no comment on the felony hit and run charge filed against him.
