King County Proposition 1, the Parks Levy, is passing with 69 percent of the vote.
Proposition No. 1 Parks Levy would pay for maintenance and operations of King County parks, trails and habitat and water quality, along with the Woodland Park Zoo. It replaces two existing levies about to expire, but it also raises the rates by about 40 percent.
The Parks Levy would authorize an additional property tax of $.1877 per $1,000 of assessed value of a home for 2014. For example, a homeowner of a $300,000 house would pay an additional $56.31 a year.
Supporters say the Parks Levy would support more than 200 parks and 175 miles of regional trails. It would keep parks clean and safe, complete missing links in the county trail system, pay for critical repairs and maintenance, and fund local city parks and Woodland Park Zoo.
Opponents do not want any additional property taxes.
