The cost of diabetes in the United States has skyrocketed in the last five years, jumping to $245 billion in 2012, according to a study by the American Diabetes Association.
That s a 41 percent increase from 2007, and it includes health care costs and lost productivity.
The American Diabetes Association says the jump is not due to medicine and treatment getting more expensive. It s because so many people have the disease. More than 22 million people currently have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
