Washington continues to move higher on an undesirable list. Our state ranks as the 14th hungriest in the country, but Northwest Harvest is trying to change that.
The Cherry Street Food bank in Seattle is the busiest in the state. The disabled, the unemployed, people who've simply exhausted their savings, come here for a welcome and a meal.
If you look at our numbers statewide, our partner programs, over 350 of them across the state, they ve gone up from seeing 500,000 visits each month at the beginning of the recession to over 700,000 visits per month, each session now, said Christina Wong of Northwest Harvest.
Here are the most desired items: proteins like canned tuna and chicken, chili, canned vegetables, baby food.
If you can t donate food consider a cash donation. Northwest Harvest can serve a family of three for just 67 cents.
