ROCHESTER, Wash. -- Shortly after a wildfire started in Rochester Wednesday, neighbors reported seeing five children running away from the area.

Investigators believe the kids started the fire.

Firefighters from West Thurston Regional Fire Authority were able to get the fire out before it spread to nearby homes. It did jump the railroad tracks and came within feet of a shed next to a home.

My first thought was get my son out of here if it got any worse, said Nicole Bridges, who lives across the street from the home that nearly caught fire.

She and her boyfriend turned on sprinklers and were planning on evacuating if the fire came any closer to their home.

Bridges was disappointed to hear kids playing with fire were apparently to blame.

Definitely not a good idea, said Bridges.

Especially when the temperature s been around 90 after several weeks without any rain, said West Thurston s Lt. Lanette Dyer.

Those conditions that are set right now are just really primed for something to blow up, said Dyer.
