The owner of the vintage ferry Kalakala is reportedly suing the state and the man who has given the dilapidated vessel free moorage for the past eight years, claiming he is suffering mental anguish.

Steve Rodrigues filed the lawsuit Monday. He alleges that the State of Washington and Tacoma businessman Karl Anderson have thwarted his efforts to restore the 77-year-old vessel.

Rodrigues is seeking a jury trial and more than $250 million in costs and damages.

Anderson reportedly filed a lawsuit March 21, seeking to evict Rodrigues and the Kalakala from Anderson s property on the Hylebos Waterway.

The Army Corps of Engineers has declared the Kalakala a hazard to navigation, meaning they can seize and sink it. But, the hull is considered so fragile, it can t be safely moved.
