Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill are in Seattle Monday to raise money for Senator Maria Cantwell, who is up for re-election.

The Bidens arrived on Air Force Two at Boeing Field late in the afternoon.

Joe Biden is attending a fundraising dinner for Cantwell at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin in downtown Seattle. Washington's Democratic candidate for governor Jay Inslee was also expected to attend.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jill Biden, who is an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College, visits South Seattle Community College to participate in a roundtable discussion on industrial careers. Jill Biden's stop at SSCC is part of her Community College to Career tour.

Biden's arrival comes as Democrats are increasingly on the defensive over jobs, with unemployment stuck around 8.2 percent.

State Republicans blasted out an email Monday afternoon, saying Biden represents the status quo. Now, labor groups and the Obama Administration are tyring to turn some of the attention to outsourcing as the issue.

It s an election year fight over how to create jobs. In Washington state, Inslee debuted his first commercial, touting the potential for jobs in clean energy. Nationally, President Obama proposed on Monday a temporary extension of the Bush tax cuts, but only for people making less than $250,000. Republicans immediately rejected the idea, saying it s a bad time to raise anyone s taxes.

The Bidens are expected to depart Seattle around 7:00 p.m.
