Friends and family of the victims shot to death inside Seattle's Cafe Racer this week organized a solemn parade and vigil for their loved ones Thursday evening.
In an ethereal and artful display, actors from the local theatrical troupe Lullaby Moon participated in the parade, wearing white costumes with large headdresses of animal faces. With their skin painted white, some were dressed as rabbits, horses, clocks, owls and others wore top hats and tuxedos. One woman pushed baby carriage full of roses while a man played violin.
Participants were encouraged to wear white and bring a rose.
The parade began at CowanPark and ended at the Cafe Racer, on Roosevelt Way near Northeast 59th Avenue.
Tributes and memorials continue to amass outside Cafe Racer since Drew Keriakedes, Joe Albanese, Kimberly Layfield, Don Largen and Leonard Meuse were shot by gunman Ian Stawicki onWednesday. Stawicki then fled to First Hill where officers said he shot Gloria Leonidas before stealing her car. Following a police manhunt all over the city, Stawicki killed himself inWest Seattle.
Meuse is at Harborview Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Police said the entire incident was recorded by surveillance video inside the coffee shop. Officers hailed the heroic actions of a Larry Adams, a man inside Cafe Racer, who threw bar stools at Stawicki and saved the lives of innocent people. Adams said his brother died September 11, 2001 in the attacks on the World Trade Center and it changed his thinking. He said he vowed to never hide under a table.
Funeral Trust Funds
A trust fund to cover funeral expenses has been created for one of victims in the Cafe Racer shootings. Separate funds are being created for each of the other victims. The following information is what we know now, but more is expected to follow in the coming days:
A memorial trust has been established for Donald Largen. Donations can be made at any Bank of America location to the Donald B. Largen Memorial Trust Fund. All proceeds will be used to cover funeral expenses, with the remainder going to Glenna Wilson, Largen's partner of 22 years.
