SEATTLE - Construction is to start next month on a $10 million pedestrian-bicycle bridge that will help connect the Seattle Center with the waterfront.
The Seattle Transportation Department saysthe new structure will go over the railroad tracks, from Elliott Avenue West to Myrtle Edwards Park, at West Thomas Street. The overpass will connect a future bicycle route, which is called the Lake to Bay Loop, from South Lake Union and the Seattle Center with the bicycle trail in the park. View renderings
Astaircase at the W. Thomas St. cul-de-sac will be built through the generosity of a private donor, the DOT says.
The project is funded by Park Levy I and II, Puget Sound Regional Council Grant Funds, King County Grant Funds, and private donations.
Work should be completed next spring.
