SEATTLE--SeattleMariners' pickupinfielder Adam Kennedy has been arrested and released for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Authorities with the California Highway Patrol report Kennedy's vehiclewas stopped while he was driving northbound on SR73 through Newport Beach around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

Officers did not cite the reason for the stop, but confirm Kennedy was arrested at 9:11 p.m. for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Kennedy was booked into the Orange CountyJail. He was released Thursday morning.

Kennedy, 35, signed a minor league deal with the Mariners earlier this month and was invited to attend Spring Training in Peoria, Arizona.

He spent last season with the Washington Nationals.

In 2002, Kennedy was voted Most Valuable Player of theAmerican League Championship Series.
