One person was taken to the hospital after a two-alarm apartment fire at an Olympia apartment complex.

It started around 12:30 a.m. at the Bellwether Apartments on Fones Road SE.

Firefighters reported flames coming out of the bottom floor extending to the third floor and parts of the attic.

The fire was in a ten unit building, Nine units of those units were occupied at the time. Apartment managers and the Red Cross are helping displaced residents.

One person was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Two cats died in the fire, but firefighters rescued another and reunited it with its family.

Damage is estimated at $1 million. The building had fire alarms but no sprinklers. Firefighters said sprinklers could have significantly reduced the damage.
