A search and rescue operation for an overdue hiker near North Bend Monday was apparently not needed.

King County Sheriff's deputies planned to search Mount Garfield at daylight after a friend reported a hiker didn't return home Sunday.

Deputies located the hiker's car at the trailhead. But by Monday morning, deputies said the car was gone.

Deputies said they believe the hiker, who hasn't been identified, walked out overnight and drove home.

A note instructing the hiker to contact authorities was left on the car. Deputies said cell phone service can be spotty in the area.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
