The girlfriend of a man shot and killed by a Tacoma Police officer says the shooting never should have happened.

He was a good man, he didn't deserve that and I just want to know why, said Jolene Ward.

Ward says her boyfriend, Sgt. Prince Gavin, was heading to a new position at Fort Carson and packing for the trip had been stressful. They got into a heated argument.

She called police, hoping they could diffuse the situation.

Instead, the officer claims, Gavin pulled out a gun, forcing the officer to fire.

But Ward believes the trained soldier was only trying to warn the officer that he was armed.

He always carried a weapon on him, he had a concealed weapons permit, he was trained, she said.

Tacoma Police say the officer has been on the force for five years and this is his second shooting.
