TUMWATER, Wash . - Thurston County detectives say the 13-year-old boy arrested for killing his father, planned the crime.

The boy was booked Monday morning on murder in the second degree charges in the death of his father, Jimmie Asher, Jr.

On Wednesday, detectives asked prosecutors to charge him with the more serious charge of first degree murder.

Detectives believe that charge is appropriate because they believe the crime was premeditated. They would not expand on that.

Investigators still are trying to determine the motive for the shooting.

Asher, Jr. was killed Sunday night while sleeping in his Thurston County home. The boy's family says the shooting was an accident.
