SEATTLE - U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee is expected to officially announce his candidacy for governor on Monday.

I'm in, Inslee wrote on his Facebook page Friday.

We have some important news to share on Monday, but as one of my Facebook friends, I wanted to let you know first: On Monday morning, I will formally announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Washington state, he said.

Inslee will be in Seattle and the Yakima Valley on Monday. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to make stops in Tacoma, Vancouver, and Spokane.

Inslee has long been positioning himself as a potential candidate, and that pathway cleared earlier this month when Gov. Chris Gregoire announced that she would not seek a third term.

Attorney General Rob McKenna has already declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination.

Inslee has represented Washington's 1st Congressional District since 1999
