SNOHOMISH., Wash. - Snohomish County authorities believe that the man who groped an 11-year-old girl at the Snohomish Fred Meyer store last month is the same man who fire-bombed abortion clinics in Everett and Bellingham in the 1980's.

A judge issued a $250,000 arrest warrant for Curtis Beseda, 58. As of Monday evening, Beseda was still missing.

Prosecutors on Friday charged Beseda with first-degree child molestation in connection with the groping. The young victim told detectives Beseda pushed himself against her, touched her backside and whispered in her ear. She told authorities he was trying to do something bad by making her leave the store.

At least eight people identified Curtis Beseda as the man seen in video surveillance released to the media.

Back in the 1980 s, Beseda was a frequent picketer outside the Feminist Women s Health Center in Everett. He set three nighttime fires there in 1983 and 1984, forcing the clinic to close. He was also convicted of arson at a Bellingham clinic.

It s like a switch went off or something, said longtime acquaintance John Mitchell.

He has known Beseda for 40 years and said everything changed when the bomber got out of prison.

I would definitely say he has some disconnect on how his actions affect other people. I don t think he sees the world through the same eyes he used to, said Mitchell.

Mitchell called Beseda sick as opposed to evil but still wouldn't trust his children around the man.

After that...he wasn t all here. It was as if he was hearing voices. That was kind of scary.

Since his release from prison, Beseda has been convicted of three misdemeanor charges and sent for a mental health evaluation.
