The Coast Guard rescued the captain of a sailboat with severe injuries near Port Angeles early Wednesday.
At 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, located in Seattle, received a mayday call from Beth, which was approximately 13 miles west of Port Angeles.
The emergency call indicated Beth's 53-year-old male captain's back, ribs, and both arms had been severely injured by the vessel's boom.
A helicopter and response boat were dispatched from Port Angeles to the 40-foot sailboat's location, just outside of Crescent Bay. Crews reached the boat just before midnight.
The Coast Guard and Clallam County crews worked together to hoist the injured man to the helicopter. He was then transported to awaiting EMS in Port Angeles.
No updates are available on the man's condition at this time.
