KABUL, Afghanistan The U.S. Army said Monday an unborn child was not among the 17 alleged Afghan murder victims of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, disputing an earlier report.
The New York Times, citing a senior Afghan police official, reported that one of the women Bales is accused of killing in the March 11 massacre was pregnant
But Army Lt. Col. Jimmie E. Cummings, Jr., a spokesman for NATO s ISAF and U.S. Forces Afghanistan tells MSNBC.com, The 17th is not from a pregnant female or any of the wounded passing away. At this time, the evidence available to the prosecution team indicates 17 victims of premeditated murder and 6 victims of assault and attempted premeditated murder.
Cummings added that the dead included four men, four women and nine children.
Bales is being held at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
