Brain scans show that tanning can be as addicting as doing drugs or smoking.

A team of researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center studied people who tanned often. The study was published in Addiction Biology magazine (more info from Health.com here).

During one indoor tanning session, tanners were exposed to UV light. During another session, the UVrays were filtered out.

Researchers discovered areas of the brain that play a role in reward were activated when tanners were exposed to UVlight.

These same areas of the brain are triggered when drug addicts do drugs or alcoholics drink.

Tanning, just like drugs and alcohol, is harmful to your health and long-term exposure can lead to skin cancer.
