OLYMPIA, Wash. Surrogate mothers in Washington cannot make a profit off having a baby, but that could change under a proposed law.

Right now surrogates can only be reimbursed for their medical expenses.

In California, surrogates make $20,000-30,000 per birth, according to the bill's sponsor.
