Last Thanksgiving's torrential Nickelsville rainstorm washed away dozens of tents and hundreds of holiday spirits.

No electricity, no drains, no sewage, no police or fire rescues. The camp was not legally permitted and not protected.

Everyone was forced to move out. Mama Duce and her husband John were part of the displacement.

Helped into a Burien apartment by the Union Gospel Mission, they'll make their first rent payment in December and celebrate this holiday season in the warmth of a home, sweet home.

It s brought joy to our lives and I hope it can bring joy to other people, said Mama Duce.
