SEATTLE- A convicted sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a popular downtown Seattle park late Sunday morning. Seattle Police arrested 25-year-old Coty Kelly in connection to the attack at Myrtle Edwards Park.

Witnesses identified Kelly as the man who attacked a woman along a walking trail. Investigators said the victim saw Kelly grab another woman who managed to get away from him. The victim told police she also tried to run, but he tackled her from behind and then sexually assaulted her.

It's pretty brazen to do that in broad daylight with people around, said Kelli Lewis, runner.

In court Monday, Kelly waived his appearance. Prosecutors said he could face a charge of second-degree rape. His bond was set at $500,000.

Kelly had warrants for failing to register as a sex offender and not reporting to the Department of Corrections, according to court records.

Back in 2011, KING 5 was in the courtroom after Kelly was arrested for another sexual assault.
Court records show he was convicted of assault and third-degree rape.

Walkers and joggers at the park believe the attack should serve as a reminder to be careful.

It won't keep me from coming, but I will probably be a little more cautious, said Rebecca Anjewierden, walker.
