The new head of the federal government's troubled healthcare website is a familiar face in the tech industry in our area. Former Microsoft executive Kurt Delbene will be taking over the fix for, a challenge many say he is more than qualified to handle.

DelBene is known as the well-liked, well-respected former head of Microsoft's Office division. He was with the company for more than 20 years. DelBene is married to Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.).

Microsoft founder and chairman Bill Gates said Delbene has a track record for successfully managing complex large-scale technology products, according to thecompany's blog.

Steve Ballmer called him a phenomenal leader.

Delbene will serve as an advisor to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who was criticized for not originally assigning oversight of the website to someone with experience in the field.

Enrollment numbers in the federal exchange quadrupled in november to 137,000, but it's still far below initial projections.

Kurt DelBene will take over for Jeff Zients, who is becoming the director of the National Economic Council.
