West Seattle is on alert again as police investigate reports that a man tried grabbing a teenage girl Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened just after 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of California Avenue SW between SW Stevens Street and Walnut Avenue SW near West Seattle High School.
West Seattle High School sent out a note to parents after a 16-year-old girl told police a man jumped out of the bushes and grabbed her arm. It was during lunch and school was still in session right across the street in the busy neighborhood.
The girl struck the suspect and was able to break free and took off running. She ran to the high school, where she called 911. She was not hurt during the incident.
The suspect ran off and remains at large. He is described as a white male in his 30s to 40s, about 5'11 - 6' tall and has shoulder length brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue zip-up jacket and black jeans.
West Seattle has been no stranger to crimes targeting children recently. There have been flashings near schools in the area the past couple of months.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call 911 or Seattle police.
