THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. - The impact of the typhoon that hit the Philippines can be felt in Western Washington.

It's really a storm of emotions for me, said Angel Vano, who was born in the Cebu region in the Southeast Asian country.

He owns a restaurant in Lacey, Cebu, named after his homeland.

Vano has had a hard time reaching relatives on the phone. He did speak with a friend who said he evacuated his home and is now afraid of looters.

It's just horrible, said Dianna Schneider, whose brother Gregg Anderson went to The Philippines for his 50th birthday.

She has not been able to reach her brother since the typhoon hit.

The best birthday present right now is information that he's alive, said Schneider.
