BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Law enforcement officers have shot and wounded two men believed to have robbed a Bellingham, Wash., gas station. The two led police on a chase up the Mount Baker Highway and exchanged gunfire with pursuing officers.

The Bellingham Herald reports no officers were hit Thursday evening.

The newspaper says the fleeing men fired a shotgun at pursuing officers, who included Bellingham police and Whatcom County sheriff's deputies.

The speeding car eventually crashed near a roundabout. One man reportedly continued firing at arriving officers, who returned fire.

One man was reported in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds while the other was hit in an arm.
