A man who was chased and beaten by five people on Capitol Hill said the group called him derogatory names that referred to his sexual orientation.

The victim suffered a broken nose, minor lacerations to his face and knee abrasions, according to Seattle police. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Officers responded to the assault near the 200 block of Summit Avenue East early Monday. The victim said he had been walking east when two women and three men approached him, calling him names.

The 37-year-old man began running, but the group eventually caught him.

The victim described the suspects as two white women and three white men, but wasn't able to provide more details because he'd been drinking, according to police.

Officers were not able to locate the suspects.
