MRI scans show migraines are linked to brain changes at birth. Italian researchers found migraine sufferers had a reduced surface area of the outer layer of the brain, which forms in the womb. But, they also had other changes affected by disease over a lifetime in that same area. Both of these abnormalities were in the pain processing areas of the brain.

The study was published in the journal Radiology.
