A University Place animal control officer is suspected of taking money from the scene of a marijuana grow operation that was under investigation.

The News Tribune reports Pierce County Sheriff s deputies responding to a burglary at a home found more than 80 marijuana plants inside. Two burglary suspects were arrested.

Two animal control officers also responded to the scene. At some point, deputies noticed that cash found at the scene had disappeared. The money was allegedly found in the animal control officers truck.

One of the officers was arrested and booked on charges of theft, tampering with evidence and criminal conduct. It s not clear to what extent the other officer was involved.

As for any arrests or charges for the grow operation, deputies will send their reports to prosecutors, according to a sheriff's department spokesman.
