The head of the Seattle Building and Construction Trades Council believes a new sports arena in SODO could create up to 1,200 union jobs. Lee Newgent said he believes there is sufficient infrastructure in the area south of Safeco Field to support the arena and all the resulting traffic.

But Michael Ennis of the Washington Policy Center said concerns expressed by the Port of Seattle and the Mariners baseball team about a new arena's impact on traffic are valid.

Chris Hansen, the lead private investor backing the new arena, says a traffic study he commissioned should be ready by next week.
